PROS

  • The super consistent Kodiak Kowboy came flying late to get up in time at six furlongs, something less than his best distance.
  • The amazing Fabulous Strike survived a very hot pace, opened up nicely in the stretch and was caught very late.

CONS

  • The pace set up nicely for the winner, but this was just a four-horse field with no traffic, not exactly a scenario that is going to be revisited in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.

BOTTOM LINE

  • Steve Asmussen’s assistant, Scott Blasi, seemed skeptical about Kodiak Kowboy’s chances to run his best on the Pro-Ride in the BC Sprint. Todd Beattie, trainer of Fabulous Strike, said the 6-year-old speedball, so far off his best form in the 2008 Sprint on Pro-Ride, won’t be making the trip to Santa Anita.
