Pat O’Brien Stakes (G1) / Del Mar, 09.06.09 / Download Chart (PDF)

PROS

  • Zensational showed the ability to overcome a poor break and recover quickly. He possesses tremendous natural speed.

CONS

  • Nobody here was remotely quick enough to give Zensational even a mild challenge.

BOTTOM LINE

  • This is clearly the best sprinter in the west and he has shown the ability to handle the synthetic surfaces. However, there is still a major question as to how he will respond when another horse gives him a serious challenge early … maybe nobody can!

I’d like to see WA’s current speed freak, Atta Boy Roy meet Zensational in the Ancient Title next month. A.B.R has hit the 1:07 and change range in his last four starts. Two 6fur. races, 1:07 2/5 early this summer and a state record of 1:07 flat last weekend. Also, has a 1:07 4/5 split in 6 1/2 furs, which he won in 1:14 1/5. In the Longacres Mile, he ran a 1:07 3/5 split and finished 5th, beaten less than two lengths in a quick 1:33 4/5. If he goes to SA, I hope he loves synthetic and gives the West another serious contender in the BC Sprint.
