Oak Tree Mile

Oak Tree Mile Stakes (G2) / Oak Tree at Santa Anita, 10.10.09 / Download Chart (PDF)
PROS
- A gutsy performance by Cowboy Cal who remains 3-for-3 at a mile on the turf. He was joined by Monterey Jazz down the backside, fought him off, and after looking like he might be passed turning for home, found a way to win.
CONS
- He appeared to be drifting out down the backside. When he turned for home he bore out some more and did not seem to corner well. However, once he switched leads into the stretch he looked a little more comfortable until the gallop out where he was bearing out again.
BOTTOM LINE
- He is a one dimensional need the lead type. He is likely to get more challenges in the Breeders’ Cup Mile than he did here and will be susceptible to those who quicken from off the pace. I would rather see him run straight than bear out most of the way around the racetrack.
