Meon Valley Stud Fillies’ Mile (Group 1) / Ascot, 09.26.09 / Race Recap
PROS
- A strong numerical line-up for this qualifier for the Juvenile Fillies Turf, with the race run in a time almost half a second faster than standard for the track.
CONS
- Unusually, the 2009 renewal was missing some of the big names as Termagant, Seta and Lillie Langtry all sidestepped this contest, whilst fancied runners Long Lashes and Mudaarah patently underperformed.
BOTTOM LINE
- Hibaayeb lost her maiden tag in this contest with a tough performance, bravely squeezing through a gap on the rail to lead with a furlong to run, but then drifting left and hampering both Lady Darshaan and You’ll Be Mine. The runner-up looked particularly unlucky and can be considered the best filly in the race given that this was her first run for over 11 weeks and was stuck on the nose by the winner’s whip. She has speed as well as stamina and would make an interesting contender at Santa Anita.
