Irish Champion Stakes (Group 1) / Leopardstown, 09.05.09 / Race Recap

PROS

  • Another breathtaking performance by the world’s best middle distance turf runner. The opposition tried everything to beat him: Aiden O’ Brien sent five postward, the pace was very fast early, and Fame and Glory made a premature move into the stretch, but the champion did not take the bait.

CONS

  • Hard to find any negatives here as Sea the Stars won his fifth consecutive Group 1 race.

BOTTOM LINE

  • Sea the Stars is the best turf horse in the world and he will be a heavy favorite in either the Breeders Cup Turf or Classic. Next up, possibly the Arc de Triomphe depending on the ground, which Sea the Stars prefers fast/firm.
