Fantastic. You really got inside the event and gave those of us unable to be there a sense of how it all played out.

Mike Smith’s corner-cutting ride made the difference at the wire. It was good to hear that on tape as Smith’s work shouldn’t be lost in all of this.

Zenyatta and Rachel. What a year for racing.

I’d love to view this, but the video isn’t playing for me. just a blank, white square where it should be. What format is the video in?

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble, CV. The video is in a Flash player. Can you tell me what OS/browser you’re using, as well as whether you’re getting any error messages or warnings?

People there were nutty. But anything that generates more excitement about racing can only be a good thing, right?

I saw Zenyatta for the first time at the tune up for the cup, her 13th win. I went down to see her up close that day and I have never been so impressed by a horse.

Thanks for the video.

I’m using Mac OS X, 10.4.11. I know there’s some sort of bug with Flash on Mac 10.4, and I think 10.5. Sometimes videos play for me and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes I get a message about needing to update the Flash Player, although I have the latest version already, and sometimes I see an error message about adjusting global storage.

In this instance, there was no error message, just a blank white space.

Thanks for the additional info. I checked the video on Firefox 3.5, Safari 4, and Opera on Mac OS X 10.4.11 and was not able to replicate the problem. Apologies for the inconvenience; I suspect the issue may have to do with the Flash player.

I don’t want to cause a problem, but is there a possibility you could email me the video, and perhaps I can try playing it with another application?

Even easier — the video is also available for viewing on YouTube:

“Cornelio Velasquez????”

Haha, ‘fraid not, the last time I rode a horse I was in elementary school, and the “C” stands for “Cathy.” But my dad played the ponies as a young man and I grew up with the family watching the Triple Crown races.

One of my best childhood memories was my mother driving with me and my brother from our Central Florida home down to Indiantown where my dad was working. During that visit we went to an open house at a racetrack, which may have been Hialeah, I don’t recall now. What I do remember vividly was seeing a huge Thoroughbred mare who was a very dark red bay, with almost a purple tinge.

I was just a kid and this mare was the biggest horse I’d ever seen. I can only imagine what it would be like to see Zenyatta in person, a mare who’s truly larger-than-life.

I wish the East coast could’ve gotten a look at her up close – big and happy and incredibly prideful
