PROS

  • Few, outside of a “well-matched” field.

CONS

  • “Well-matched,” only because of the field’s lack of graded stakes wins. There was only one graded stakes winner in the field. The race scratched down to seven horses and was run over a sloppy race track.
  • Delosvientos sacrificed any chance he had to win with a disastrous first-turn move. He checked, bolted and then ran off in the first turn, but his early speed and subsequent plummet to the back of the pack at the 1/2-mile pole caused Nite Light and Rising Moon to inherit an early lead and then Ea and Alcomo to go after them a tad prematurely.

BOTTOM LINE

  • The Brooklyn is not a good race to use as a barometer. All the horses with a chance (on paper) were compromised by the scenario, which set up a perfect situation for an upset by Eldaafer, who simply picked up the pieces in the final stages on the way to his first graded stakes win as the second-longest shot on the tote board.
